The idea for Doc OKC came from Founder and Documentary Producer, Michael Schwarz. Having attended other documentary film festivals outside of Oklahoma, he wondered why Oklahoma didn’t have a film festival exclusively for documentaries.

Doc OKC was then formed in August 2021 with the expectation of holding the first festival the following year. Having worked on a short film for the restoration and history of what has become The Auditorium at the Douglass, we could not think of a better venue for Doc OKC.
